Biography
Takuya Uchiyama is a fashion hair stylist and groomer based in London, UK, working across Europe and worldwide.
He began his career as a hairdresser in Tokyo, Japan, in 2006. After honing and developing his skills in hairstyling and makeup for six years, he made the decision to move to London in 2012 and trained at Vidal Sassoon to pursue a career in the creative industry.
After witnessing the limitless possibilities for a session hair stylist and the potential to use hair as a form of expression and a way to be creative, he started collaborating with fashion photographers and stylists, getting stories placed in publications.
Takuya’s work quickly caught the attention of leading fashion houses and publications in the UK. Inspired by 1990s fashion and music trends, he became known for combining realistic, natural textures and unconventional styles, which have helped make him one of the most sought-after, iconic hair stylists in the fashion industry today.
He has been studiously prolific, working with photographers Solve Sundsbo, Laurence Ellis, Lena C Emery, Daniel Shea, Frank Lebon, Jodan Hemingway, Phil Engelhardt, Esther Theaker, Maria & Louise Thornfeldt, Lola & Pani, amongst others, and stylists Tamara Rothstein, Helga Burrell, Celestine Cooney, Julian Ganio, Gary David Moore, Eliza Conlon, Max Pearmain, Tom Guinness, Leopolda Duchemin, Ai Kamoshita to name a few.
He has collaborated with an array of fashion and commercial clients such as Burberry, Mulberry, Fendi, Paul Smith, Dunhill, Margaret Howell, Stella McCartney, Acne Studio, Selfridges and Liberty London etc. He has contributed to publications such as Vogue, GQ, I-D, Dazed&Confused, AnOther, Numero, Interview, POP, The Face, Financial Times etc.
